SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A little over two years after Melky Cabrera crept out of the Giants locker room for good following a steroid suspension and his estrangement for the eventual World Series Champions, the team is reportedly considering bringing back the free agent to fill the vacancy in left field.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says the team has looked at bringing back the 2012 All-Star game MVP who was later suspended 50 games for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug rules.

Cabrera was batting an NL-leading .346 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs in his first season with San Francisco when he was suspended. He missed the stretch run in the regular season.

Though he was eligible to play, Cabrera was left off the postseason roster. Rumors surfaced in local media at the time that the parting between Melky and the organization was awkward.

Despite the missed time, the team later awarded him a ring while he was playing with Tornoto, but that exchange was carried out in private.

Michael Morse played left field for the Giants last season. Morse proved to be a valuable power asset for the team, but he battled injuries and the Giants may also be looking to upgrade the position defensively.
